Hmm, an interesting technique to leave out the negative brain buzz. Regarding readership, my numbers have dripped so low on Elephant, that 32 people reading my Substack feels like thousands. Ugh. I feel like quitting at times, and just writing to write. Thanks Billy. Maybe I need to try the negative removing diet.

I always think about the beginning of Rilke’s Letters To A Young Poet. “Ask yourself, must I write?” Powerful stuff. I don’t have a lot of balance in my life, but that’s one place I do. I want like anything to get another book deal, but I won’t stop writing novels if I don’t. Maybe the one I write when I’m 57 becomes a bestseller. How do I know? Maybe these first attempts will mean something later. I still love getting up every morning and living in a world I’ve created from whole cloth.

When I write fiction, I cannot wait to see how the characters evolve and how it ends. When I took buses or trains to work i wrote imaginary stories about the people I watched. The story i posted yesterday started as real but I decided to check in with the main character and she told me the cheese vendor is her cousin, not her new husband! So, I added the TRUTH VS REALITY in the title. 😂

You’re both still killing it in my eyes. And I love your devotion to writing. I find at times I just don’t have anything to say out loud to the world. So now I’m redirecting my energy into making clothing using my love of words as my theme and discovering other art skills I have. And I get out of the house when I attend local festivals.

Thank you, Sharon. And congratulations on your new artistic pursuits. I turn to songwriting when I get sick of poetry and prose. It’s always good to have something else. I miss you also. Did I mention that?

I’m reading this on holidays while the babies sleep and laughing and crying. This hits home. I had a similar experience with the Mel Robbins 5 second rule it kind of spun out of control. Today I read a bad review on one of my stories on a meditation app. When you work so hard at thought challenging it seeps into your core yet those negative feedback reviews are deadly. As always I felt better and brighter after this read.

I think Hemingway had the best definition of critics: "Critics are men who watch a battle from a high place and then come down and then come down and shoot the survivors." We've all been victims of keyboard cowboys. They usually have a profile picture of a car or a cat or something.
